News I CSP Partner PolyGone Systems Wins Two Prestigious Innovation Awards

Recently, PolyGone Systems, a partner enterprise of the Climate Solutions Partnership (CSP), has been recognized with two major awards for its outstanding technology in microplastic detection and removal. These accolades highlight PolyGone’s significant contributions to environmental protection and human health.

Recognition for Cutting-Edge Microplastic Solutions

PolyGone Systems was awarded the Earth05 Next Gen & Net Zero (Microplastics & Desalination) Co-Creation Prize – Edition #1 for its innovative and impactful solutions in securing clean drinking water and combating microplastic pollution. The award ceremony will take place at the Catalysts of Impact Gala in Davos in January 2025, co-hosted by Earth05 and its partners.

In addition, PolyGone Systems emerged as a winner in the Fall 2024 Tech Challenge, alongside Lucendi, Inc. This competition, sponsored by A. O. Smith Corporation, Badger Meter, and Watts Water Technologies, focused on groundbreaking solutions for microplastic detection and removal. PolyGone's innovative filtration technology received high praise from the judging panel.

Technological Innovation: Cost-Effective Microplastic Filtration System

A Princeton University spinout, PolyGone Systems has developed an affordable, portable, and environmentally friendly filtration system designed to capture microplastics as small as 1mm. The technology is highly adaptable and can be deployed across various water environments, including rivers, lakes, and wastewater effluents, offering a powerful tool for global water conservation and public health.

At the core of PolyGone’s system is its biomimetic fiber filter, often referred to as an “artificial root system.” This advanced device uses dense silicone tube fibers to adsorb microplastics from water flow. Since most microplastics have a lower density than water, the device is strategically placed about 250mm below the surface, targeting areas where microplastics accumulate most. Laboratory tests have demonstrated that the system can effectively remove over 71% of microplastics, capturing particles smaller than 0.25mm—achieving a level of precision that surpasses conventional plastic collection devices in open water environments.

Beyond filtration, PolyGone Systems provides end-to-end solutions for microplastic analysis, monitoring, removal, and recycling. Its state-of-the-art laboratory facilities enable detailed microplastic counting and classification from water samples. Additionally, its proprietary "Plastic Hunter" monitoring stations can detect microplastics in even the most remote water environments, providing real-time tracking and early warning capabilities.

Driving Market Expansion with CSP Support

As a key enterprise partner of CSP, PolyGone Systems has leveraged CSP’s extensive global network to accelerate its market expansion and facilitate the deployment of its microplastic solutions. CSP actively connects PolyGone with government agencies, water utilities, and leading industry players, fostering collaboration and real-world implementation of its technologies. Additionally, CSP’s industry exchange platforms have amplified recognition and support for PolyGone’s innovations worldwide, driving the adoption of clean technologies and advancing global efforts in water conservation and sustainable development.

These recent awards not only affirm PolyGone Systems’ leadership in microplastic innovation but also serve as motivation for the company to continue its mission in environmental protection, contributing to a more sustainable future for all.
